Norwich, Guildhall

The guildhall was established following the charter awarded to the City of Norwich by King Henry IV, granting it autonomy from the county of Norfolk. Constructed between 1407 and 1413, this building quickly became the primary civic meeting place. A significant contribution to its construction came from William Appleyard, the first Mayor of Norwich, who provided a "great tree" for the purpose.
